Increasing Efficiency in Railway Manufacturing

How NEXTGENAINDEX Delivered for Toyota Tsusho Europe At NEXTGENAINDEX, innovation and precision are the foundations of everything that we do. Recently, we did this particularly well on our latest project with Toyota Tsusho Europe by showing that we are able to deliver tailored engineering solutions which drive efficiency and enhance operational workflows.

The Project

We were given the task of re-designing the follower walkways used on the railway manufacturing shop floor by our team of four project engineers and design engineers. It is a crucial part of this plant’s work process, mainly allowing workers to move alongside ongoing production lines efficiently and safely.

This was reverse engineering work on two operational walkways needing design revision, and manufacturing four new follower walkway, redesigning the current models to best suit the revised needs of Toyota Tsusho Europe, with a view for easy manufacturing and durability. Process

First of all, the project was started with an extended reverse engineering phase. In this phase, the existing dumb solids had to be transformed into editable CAD models. Every feature present in the current structure was carefully captured in detail to give a good base for further redesign.

We then collaborated with the team at Toyota Tsusho Europe to determine the exact needs of this customer. From that input, we generated improved walkway designs that were appropriate for the standards of safety, functionality, and engineering.

Once designs were finalized and approved, we produced fully detailed manufacturing drawings to facilitate production. Deliverables were prepared to minimize ambiguity for seamless transitions from design to manufacturing. In its entirety, this project was completed and delivered within two months.

Achievements

This project speaks volumes about our experience and dedication to delivering value. Key highlights included:

  • Succesfully converting legacy dumb solids into editable, accurate models.
  • Designing better walkways that met the client’s requirements.
  • Providing detailed manufacturing drawings.

Our work increased Toyota Tsusho Europe’s manufacturing efficiency by offering walkways more suitable for their manufacturing operations.

Challenges and Solutions

No engineering project is devoid of its challenges. Some of the challenges we faced were:

  1. Minimal Initial Data: The dumb solids provided did not contain much information. We surmounted this with the use of the latest reverse engineering tools and techniques to recreate the models accurately.
  2. Design Alignment: The need to meet the exact client expectations called for iterative feedback sessions. Our team put great emphasis on open communication to ensure alignment throughout the project.

Conclusion

This collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Europe showcases NEXTGENAINDEX’s capability to address complex engineering challenges with precision and efficiency. By utilizing advanced tools, encouraging collaboration, and maintaining a steadfast focus on quality, we delivered a solution that exceeded expectations.

We’re proud to work with the industry’s leaders in innovation and process improvement, shaping the future of manufacturing at NEXTGENAINDEX one project at a time.
